Welcome to Nations to Neighbors!

Nations to Neighbors was born in response to an opportunity to welcome Afghan allies after thousands were evacuated from Afghanistan in 2021. What began as a few community members dedicated to providing a warm welcome in Billings quickly grew into a network of volunteers assisting with every part of resettlement.

In 2022, we welcomed four Afghan families to Billings, including ten children and six adults. We continue to navigate the reunification process of two Afghan men with their wives and children who were left behind, unable to be evacuated with the others.

In August of this year, we were overjoyed with the news that a resettlement organization had received a green light from the State Department to open an office in Billings. This means that Billings has been approved to welcome a small number of refugees who were forced to flee their homeland–most of them many years ago–due to war, violence, or persecution. While we do not yet know where our new neighbors will be coming from, we are eager to get to know them.

With this decision, our role has changed from community-based resettlement to community-based support. With a breadth of experience under our belts and continuing in strong partnership with many churches, organizations, and individuals, we are well prepared to provide the long welcome refugees need to ensure success.
